How does the game of roulette work?

by Jessie Lark

The game of roulette is always played the same way whether you are playing online or in a physical casino. The croupier directs the game and invites the players to put their bets on the mat by saying “Place your bets!”. Then the croupier places a ball on the outside of the turntable. He throws the ball by saying “Nothing is going anymore!”.

When the ball is thrown, you will no longer be able to bet or change your stake, or withdraw your chips. The ball will land on one of the numbered squares which will determine the number and color of the winning square. Depending on the type of bet you have placed, the dealer will either pick up your stake or pay out your winnings. The payouts depend on the type of bet players have placed before the ball is launched.

When the ball lands at zero, some bets are not entirely lost. Players will be able to recover half of their stake. The concerned bets are those on black or red, even or odd and the stakes on the numbers 1 to 18 and 19 to 36.

The success of roulette around the world

The game of roulette was invented in the 17th century by the mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal. Today, this form of roulette is called European roulette. This roulette game is available at most online casinos. At the beginning, gambling was banned in France, before being legalized in the 19th century at the same time as the opening of the first casinos. The game of roulette is therefore becoming trendy and is exported to the United States.

The success of the game of roulette has been very rapid thanks to the fact that the single zero on the table gives players a better advantage over the house than other casino games. In addition, it was from the export of the game of roulette to the United States that the success of roulette in the cinema fueled its fame in the gambling halls. All of these stories show us that roulette is among the most fascinating casino games.
